Route interrupted – Lower Austria: truck rammed when being towed away by train

A truck collided with a passenger train in Bad Fischau-Brunn (Wiener Neustadt district) on Wednesday. A 23-year-old was taken to Wiener Neustadt hospital with serious injuries. The driver and truck driver suffered minor injuries, police said. The train route is suspended until Thursday.

The truck was on the free level crossing when the collision occurred shortly after 1 p.m. The truck towed a trailer. A 27-year-old from Burgenland was behind the wheel and, according to police, his 23-year-old passenger from the Wiener Neustadt district got out to see if the trailing axle did not get stuck in the rails crossing the railway crossing.

Truck overturned, train derailed
The force of the impact caused the truck to be dragged along by the train and overturned, the set jumping off the rails. The 28-year-old train driver from the Baden district was taken to Baden State Hospital with minor injuries. The five train passengers and the occupants of the mobile home were unharmed.

As a result of the collision, no journeys will be possible between Bad Fischau-Brunn train station and Wöllersdorf/Piesting train station until Thursday, the ÖBB reports on its website. A rail replacement service was established.
