Hermann Maier fell victim to serious fraud. A Slovenian borrowed a total of 21 e-bikes for his brutal scam and then resold them for a profit. One of the seven victims: the ski school of the Salzburg winter sports legend. The damage is enormous.
A 22-year-old Slovenian caused about 105,000 euros in damage with a brutal trick. The young man, who already had four previous convictions in his home country, planned to get into mischief in Salzburg and Styria in the summer. The young man borrowed a total of 21 e-bikes and simply resold them.
Prominent victim of fraud: ski legend Hermann Maier. The ski school, which is owned by the ex-ski star and his brother Alexander Maier, also has a bicycle rental company. “The director even helped with loading the bicycles,” reports the company’s lawyer. In this case alone, the damage amounts to more than 18,000 euros.
The perpetrator confessed and apologised
“I’m very sorry,” the young man said at his trial on Wednesday. “He used the money to pay off his father’s debts,” adds defender Maximilian Ladbon.
The non-final verdict: 18 months in prison, 12 of which are suspended. In addition, the man must partially compensate for the damage.
