The president of Ukraine emphasizes the “tragic moment” when “many Ukrainians who profess European values die”.
Ukraine’s president, Volodimir Zelensky, on Monday delivered the questionnaire seeking candidate status for accession to the European Union (EU), a move that brings Kiev closer to its membership in the bloc.
Zelensky stressed that the move is one of the “phases” of Kiev’s path to the EU, “a pursuit for which Ukrainian citizens have been fighting”.
In this sense, he stressed that the progress of the process is taking place at a “tragic moment”, when “many Ukrainians professing European values are dying”.
“However, the Ukrainian people are united by this goal: to feel equal, part of Europe, part of the EU,” he added.
