Brazil’s prosecutor’s office has asked the Supreme Federal Court (TSF) to investigate three Bolsonaro deputies for “inciting anti-democratic acts” following Sunday’s attack on the headquarters of the three powers in Brazil.
In a statement, the Public Prosecution Service has asked the TSF to investigate the MPs Andre Fernandes, Silvia Waiapiboth from the Liberal Party (PL) — the same formation as former president Jair Bolsonaro — and also from the parliamentarian Clarissa Tercioof the conservative Progressive Party.
According to the petition, the three deputies are suspected of “inciting violence and vandalism” through “social media posts before and during the invasions,” which could constitute the offense of “public incitement to crime.”
Two days before the acts, Congressman Fernandes posted a video on Twitter announcing the “first act against the Lula government” to take place over the weekend. He also posted a vandalized photo of the office door of Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
For his part, on the day of the attack, Tércio published a video on Instagram in which he incited the Bolsonaristas. “We just took power. We’re in Congress. All the people are here. This will go down in history, the history of my grandchildren, my great-grandchildren,” he said.
Similarly, Waiapi, close to former President Bolsonaro, encouraged the actions through posts on Instagram, also on the day of the anti-democratic acts: “The people are taking over the Esplanade of the ministries this Sunday! Takeover of power by the Brazilian people who are dissatisfied with the government red”.
