Stray dogs attacked a woman while she was jogging in a tourist area on the outskirts of Bucharest and bit her to death.
The accident, which happened on Saturday, shocked the Romanian public. According to a report, the 43-year-old biologist and engineer had previously been attacked by stray dogs and seriously injured. This happened last April in the same area near the Morii reservoir in Bucharest’s 6th district. That writes the Facebook platform ‘Coruptia ucide’ (corruption kills) Saturday evening.
Obituaries described the woman as nature and animal loving and athletic. As a result, she was an active mountain climber and was involved in various environmental and conservation initiatives. She also worked as an expert for the Environment Department of the City of Bucharest. According to information, she leaves one child.
Constantly attacking people
Stray dogs have been a problem in Romanian cities for decades. Thousands of animals live together in packs that aggressively defend their territory. People get bitten all the time. It caused a sensation when a four-year-old boy was shot dead by street dogs in 2013.
Romania’s authorities have so far dealt with the problem rather unsuccessfully. Sterilization campaigns, overcrowded animal shelters and the occasional killing of strays have not significantly improved the situation so far.
