French Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt defended the raising the minimum retirement age to 64 years by 2030 as a necessary measure to achieve “balancing the system”.

“The measures we are taking are the measures that should balance the system in 2030,” defended a Dussopt to the media, who also labeled the pension reform announced by the government as “fundamental”.

For Dussopt, giving up raising the minimum retirement age would mean giving up attempts to rebalance the system and also guarantee pensions for future generationsaccording to the newspaper ‘Le Figaro’.

In this sense, the Minister of Labor has recognized that raising the retirement age is one of the aspects in which there is “discord” with the unionsalthough it has warned that it is “absolutely fundamental” and unshakable.

French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced a long-awaited one early this year pension reform raising the retirement age to 64 by 2030 and increasing the minimum pension for all beneficiaries by €100 per month compared to the current benefit.

In response to the mobilizations, the French government has issued a warning to the organizers of the protests, at a time when some are calling for tougher action, especially with blackouts.

“Not everything is acceptable”has emphasized the Minister of Labor in this regard.
