Anton Waldner, born in East Tyrol, will retire on March 30 as senior military officer in Salzburg. With the “crown”, the brigadier spoke about his legacy, tanks for Ukraine and his wishes for politics. The fact that Austria and Germany are the least willing to take up arms in Europe is evidenced by their reduced defense capabilities.
“crown”: Brigadier, why are you retiring at the end of March after four years as military commander of Salzburg?
Brigadier General Anton Waldner: Because I can hand over to my successor a functioning organization that has carried out all assignments without any problems despite all the staff shortages. The military leadership is decisive and well integrated into the civilian environment. The order can be executed. In addition, huge investments will be made in Salzburg in the future: There are troops here that need to be reinforced, such as anti-drone defenses in Jäger Battalion 8, modern equipment in Engineer Battalion 2, investments in sensors in Radar Battalion and in digital communications in Command Support Battalion 2 in St. Johann.
