A major search for a 78-year-old nursing home resident in the area of ​​Villach lasted until the early hours. The worst was feared because of the sub-zero temperatures. Fortunately, the woman was found Friday morning with severe hypothermia.

“The woman was last seen at 11 p.m. on Thursday at the Maria Gail care home and then disappeared during the patrol at midnight,” reports Dieter Berger of the Carinthia rescue dog brigade, who arrived shortly after midnight with ten people and six searchers. dogs were involved in the major search.

Large search radius
Due to the sub-zero temperatures, the search radius was large and in addition to the rescue dog brigade, rescue dog squadron of the Samaritan Association, police patrols with assistance dogs and the Libelle FLIR police helicopter, the fire brigades of Maria Gail, Tschinowitsch/Turdanitsch, Drobollach, Magdalen, Perau and the main fire station in Villach were also deployed.

Until 07:00 Friday morning, a feverish search was carried out for the 78-year-old woman with dementia, who was only lightly dressed and had only been staying in the Maria Gail nursing home for three days. When boats from the main fire station of Villach wanted to search the Drau and the Gail, the 78-year-old was found shortly before 8 a.m. by a 73-year-old pensioner on an impassable dirt road in Maria Gail with severe hypothermia, but alive and responsive. She was taken to the LKH Villach after the first aid.
