Clearly “no” – Biden against delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Kiev

Date:

US President Joe Biden has spoken out against supplying Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets. When asked by journalists if he was in favor of supplying the fighter jets to Ukraine, Biden answered “no” in Washington on Monday. The Ukrainian leadership is currently urging its Western allies to provide fighter jets.

In an interview last week, Biden’s deputy national security adviser Jon Finer did not categorically rule out a delivery of F-16 jets. In principle, the US would not rule out a “specific system”, but would constantly monitor what weapons Ukraine needed in the war against Russia.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly ruled out the delivery of fighter jets to Kiev and warned of an “ongoing bidding war” in the arms supply debate.

Battle tank promised
Scholz and Biden only promised Ukraine heavy Leopard 2 and Abrams main battle tanks after much hesitation last week. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy then asked his country’s allies for fighter jets.

Biden: “I’m going to Poland”
The US president announced a trip to Poland, which borders Ukraine, without naming a specific date. “I am going to Poland. But I don’t know when,” the US president said. Recently, there were reports that Biden could travel to Europe on February 24, 2022 to celebrate the first anniversary of the start of Russia’s offensive war against Ukraine.
