The Prime Minister of France, Élisabeth Borne, has announced that the French government will make a proposal expand the criteria that would facilitate early retirement for crush mass protests against its decision to raise the minimum retirement age to 64 by 2030.

In an interview with the ‘Journal du Dimanche’, Borne, who at the time explained his initial decision as “not negotiable”now proposes that anyone who started contributing between the ages of 20 and 21 can retire at age 63, one year before the minimum age.

The government gets to work next Monday the debate on his proposal, a day before the new protests and work stoppages declared by the French trade unions.

“What we’re looking for are agreements. I want to find a majority. We have worked for months for this,” Borne told the Sunday newspaper.

Article 49.3 of the French Constitution, which has been used seven times by the executive to, among other things, “give the green light” to the Social Security Financing Act, allows pass a law without a vote.

Government estimates indicate that this new approach will affect some 30,000 people per yearat a cost that would fluctuate between 600 and 1000 million euros.
