Date:

Most of the buildings in the area are completely destroyed and people are out on the streets in the middle of winter.

The Emergency Committee has launched its protocols of action after the earthquake that struck early Monday morning in the area of southeastern Turkey and northern Syria. The magnitude 7.8 earthquake killed more than 5,000 and injured 20,500. Authorities in the area estimate the number of victims at 30,000, as many people are trapped under the rubble.

The earthquake occurred during Sunday night and in the middle of winter. Most of the buildings are completely destroyed and people are on the streets. Faced with this situation, the NGOs that are part of the Emergency Committee (SOS Children’s Villages, Educo, Médicos del Mundo, Oxfam Intermón, Plan International and World Vision) are conducting the initial assessments and organizing their emergency response in the locations where they are present. The aid will mainly consist of providing shelter, food, education, water, sanitation and health care to all people affected by the earthquake.

Through the Emergency Committee, these NGOs want to jointly channel the donations of all those people who are willing to help the population affected by the natural disaster that took place in Turkey and Syria. In this way, money can be collected faster and more effectively to save more lives.

To work together you can make a transfer, send a bizum or send a text message. All information can be found on the page of the Emergency Committee.

The Committee was established in 2015 to provide a rapid response mechanism in emergency situations that allows for increasing citizen support in various humanitarian crises, acting as a permanent link between NGOs, businesses, the media and citizens , increasing social trust in NGOs in emergency situations, accounts of the impact of action and joint action as a measure of emergency response to society.
