At the beginning of this week, a Bruck woman received a horrible bill from the city of Bruck an der Mur. After the “Steirerkrone” report came the redemptive correction.
Margit Hubner was stunned when she opened her bill for the city of Bruck on Monday: she would pay 352,487 euros! Hubner, who lives alone, is said to have consumed 100,000 cubic meters of water. “Did someone dump the Neusiedlersee at my expense?” she joked.
It soon became apparent that a technical error had occurred during the billing. “When it was imported into the accounting system, there seemed to have been a drop in numbers. There are about 4,000 notes going out at a time, three of which we know are mistakes,” says a spokesman for the city.
Credit and new billing
After the article appeared in the “Steirerkrone”, Brucker’s mayor, Andrea Winkelmeier, apologized to Hubner, she says. “I have now even received a ten euro voucher. Fortunately, the real bill is now only 136.09 euros,” says Hubner.
In the future, manually checking each invoice would be beyond the capacity of the city. However, each invoice has a contact person for questions if there are any problems.
