Spectacular traffic accident Sunday evening in the Ausserfern region in Tyrol. Between Ehrwald and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, two cars collided head-on just before the German border. Due to the force of the impact, a car ended up on the adjacent railway embankment. An approaching regional train was able to stop just in time. In total, the violent collision claimed four injuries!
The serious accident happened around 8.30 pm: a 20-year-old German was driving on the B187 Ehrwalder Straße when he lost control of his car just before the border and ended up in the oncoming lane. There he finally crashed with full force into the oncoming car of a compatriot (22).
The Ausserfernbahn was able to stop in time
“Due to the violent collision, the 20-year-old’s car was thrown against the fence of the adjacent rail system. The car broke through the fence and came to rest on the embankment,” police said. At the same time, a regional train from the Ausserfernbahn was approaching towards Ehrwald “Because the train was within sight of the accident site, the driver was able to stop the train just in time and safely,” the detectives continue.
All four occupants were injured, some seriously
In the accident, the two drivers and one occupant of each of the two cars – a woman (21) and a youth (17) – suffered serious injuries. The 22-year-old and his passenger were flown by C1 and RK-2 emergency medical helicopters to the Innsbruck clinic and the Murnau accident clinic (D). The 20-year-old driver of the other car was taken to the Reutte district hospital after first aid. His 17-year-old passenger went to hospital in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
During the operation and clean-up work, the B187 Ehrwalder Straße near the accident site was completely closed for approximately two and a half hours.
