An alpinist fell eight meters deep in the border area of Upper and Lower Austria into a snow-covered hole. Together mountain rescuers from both states managed to save the seriously injured.
Cooperation was required after the 55-year-old alpinist fell into a snowy hole on the 1770 meter high stump wall, which belongs to Hollenstein (Lower Austria) and Weyer (Upper Austria).
Difficult rescue operation
Mountain rescuers from Hollenstein, Losenstein (Upper Austria), Göstling and Waidhofen sometimes climbed to the top because transport by helicopter was initially not possible due to poor visibility. Seven mountain rescuers mastered the more than 1000 vertical meters and had to take medical and rescue equipment with them. Shortly afterwards, another group of eight helpers took off with Akja and other salvage equipment.
After the weather cleared for a while, the rescue helicopter “Christophorus 15” was able to fly eight mountain rescuers, including a doctor, on four flights and disembark near the accident site.
Hospitalized
After first aid by the doctor, who was hurled eight meters into the cave to the injured person, the seriously injured person was rescued from the vertical shaft with the help of a rope and a crew train to the helipad, from where he was taken to Amstetten hospital .
