Eleven alcohol and nine drug drivers were caught on a rural grid square in Burgenland. The highest value was 2.02 per thousand for a 45-year-old driver in the Neusiedl am See district.
The police announced this in a press release on Sunday. Eight drivers had more than 0.8 promille alcohol in their blood. In addition, numerous speed offenders were caught. On the Ostautobahn (A4) in the Neusiedl am See district, about two Romanian vehicles were “flashed” in a 60 zone at 117 and 125 km/h respectively.
Caught a lot of speed demons
The drivers of the two Romanian vehicles were measured with a laser device shortly before the border towards Hungary. The police caught other speeding offenders in the districts of Eisenstadt-Umwelt (125 instead of 70 km/h) and Oberwart (164 or 158 instead of the permitted 100 km/h). In the district of Güssing, a 19-year-old Hungarian was caught on the B57 without a driver’s license. His father in the passenger seat stated that it was his son taking the test drive.
A total of 96 police officers were present between 4 p.m. Saturday and 2 a.m. Sunday. They checked a total of 1,060 drivers and conducted 926 alcohol and alcohol tests. 557 reports were made and 169 criminal orders issued.
