A German citizen has been charged with his alleged connection to Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in southern Portugal in 2007, just days after the 15th anniversary of her disappearance.

The German authorities have given the green light to the Portuguese prosecutor’s charge against 44-year-old Brueckner, who serving sentence for drug trafficking in Germany and under investigation for several violationsincluding a 72-year-old US citizen and a young woman.

The suspicions against Brueckner gained weight after being extradited from Portugal to Germany in 2017 on charges of a case of sexual abuse of minors in Greece.

Before Brueckner was suspected, Portuguese police followed clues for years that led nowhere and fueled the mystery.
One of those responsible for the investigation ended up in court for a controversial book in which he identified the little girl’s parents as the authors of an accidental murder.
The case remains one of the major failures of the Portuguese police, who have collected more than 2,000 proceedings and 500 searches in the area and have nearly 20 suspects.
