A 21-year-old Polish woman claims she is Maddie McCann, who was kidnapped as a baby. She posted pictures on Instagram to prove it. However, a Viennese forensic scientist considers this unlikely. Comparing the kids’ photos would reveal too many differences between Maddie and Julia.
Forensic scientist Patricia Staniek and forensic consultant Shariq Reza examined the footage for the Swiss tabloid ’20 Minuten’. They concluded that there is a 59 percent chance that it is not the same person. For example, the distance between the eyes is different, the eyebrows have a different shape and Julia’s nose in the photos is narrower than Maddie’s. The nose shape of the two girls is different and Maddie’s upper lip is narrower than Julia’s.
“Julia’s left nostril appears narrowed, while Maddie’s nostril is narrowed,” Staniek continues. Christian Fehrlin, owner of the company AVA-X, which specializes in identifying people using artificial intelligence, even concludes in the report “20 Minutes” that 90 percent of the people involved are different. Each software works with different algorithms and pictures, he said.
Lots of inconsistencies
As reported, 21-year-old Polish Julia claims she is Maddie McCann, who was kidnapped in 2007 in a Portuguese holiday resort. Madeleine from Great Britain was three years old at the time. So she should be 18 or 19 today. However, it is suspected on social media that the age of the abductees could have been changed afterwards in order not to arouse suspicion.
It is also critical that Julia only registered on Instagram a few days ago and does not post about any other topic. On her page are some pictures of her as a child. “Police in Poland and Britain are trying to ignore me,” she complains.
DNA testing would bring clarity
Maddie’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, have not officially commented on the Polish woman’s statements. According to her, they would have already agreed to a DNA test. Only this could provide definitive clarity, says Staniek. On May 3, 2007, then three-year-old Madeleine from Great Britain disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal. The parents had left her and her two younger siblings to eat with friends at a nearby restaurant.
In Germany, the authorities are convinced that Christian B. (45) killed the girl in Portugal. He is currently serving a seven-year sentence for the 2005 rape of an American woman in Praia da Luz. He is charged with three counts of aggravated rape and two counts of child sexual abuse. The defendant denies having anything to do with Maddie’s kidnapping. He was miles from the place at the time and could have that confirmed.
