In Strobl (Salzburg) a serious traffic accident occurred in morning traffic on Friday. A driver from Upper Austria ran into oncoming traffic. Two people were seriously injured and the driver who caused the accident was under the influence of alcohol.
For reasons that are still unclear, a car on Wolfgangseestraße (B158) ran into oncoming traffic and collided with an oncoming vehicle. The victim’s car was then flung over an embankment, trapping the two occupants.
Alcoholic driver slightly injured
Emergency services had to free the two seriously injured residents of Salzburg (aged 25 and 54) from their vehicle. They were taken to the state hospital in Salzburg by helicopter or ambulance. The driver of the accident, a 47-year-old Upper Austrian, suffered only minor injuries and was taken to hospital in Bad Ischl. According to the police, a breath analysis test in Upper Austria showed 1.2 promille alcohol.
The accident happened around 6.30 am in the municipality of Strobl, near Gasthof Wieshof (km 35.6). The accident closed the B158 for approximately two hours. The Strobl and St. Gilgen volunteer fire departments sprang into action. There were also two ambulances, four ambulances and the ambulance helicopter on the scene.
