Her dedication to the Russian perspective on the offensive war in Ukraine could now cost a Russian in Germany dearly. The organizer of the pro-Russian car parade in Cologne, Elena Kolbasnikova, must now answer to court for alleged war propaganda.
Specifically, Kolbasnikova is said to have approved Russian offensive warfare at her event in May 2022 – the largest pro-Russian motorcade in Germany to date. According to the Cologne public prosecutor’s office, it is a criminal offense, the news site “t-online” reports.
“Russia helps end the war”
During the event, the Russian made statements such as: “Russia is not an aggressor. Russia is currently helping to end the war in Ukraine.” – and thus completely contradicted the reliable facts from the war zone. Kolbasnikova “committed a crime in a way that could disturb public order” at a meeting, the prosecutor said.
And indeed, not only is waging a war of aggression a crime under international law, anyone who agrees also risks up to three years in prison. Kolbasnikova, meanwhile, presents herself as a victim, claiming via Telegram that her “dedication to peace and truth” is being criminalized.
Russia operates demos
Kolbaniskowa is considered one of the main leaders of the pro-Russian protests in Germany – she also collaborates with far-right politicians. More than 1000 participants took part in their car parade with cars flagged with Russian and Soviet flags – Russian state television also reported an alleged “mass protest”.
Poses with Kadyrov flags
Kolbasnikova is originally from the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. As her brother explained to the Reuters news agency, there is now a big split in the family. The photos from Germany would further reinforce this. In particular, the fact that she likes to decorate her events with the flags of the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov also met with rejection in family circles.
Kolbasnikova also wants to cause a stir in the lawsuit itself – she also calls on her supporters to come to the hearing. A meeting is also scheduled for the courthouse – and another motorcade.
