The armed forces of Colombia have reported the seizure of three submarines used for cocaine trafficking by the guerrillas of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Apparently these were used to carry between four and six tons of cocaine hydrochloride each.
Specifically, the semi-submersibles belong to the Segunda Marquetalia and Comando Coordinador de Occidente groups of FARC dissidents active in the Nariño Department, in the Colombian Pacific.
As reported by the authorities, the submarines were readied for immediate use: “The military operations were carried out by troops of the Marine Infantry Brigade No. 4 in the countryside of the municipalities of La Tola, Tumaco and Mosquera, where they located the three semi-submersibles, each about 23 meters long, fully built and ready to release cocaine hydrochloride to be transported abroad where it would be marketed”.
