Simmer is now controlled from the third district. This is not an isolated case: official channels in Vienna are increasingly separated from the district and migrated to central authorities. The city states that this means more service for citizens. However, there is resistance in the neighborhoods. The opinions of passers-by also differ (see survey).
Since the beginning of March, the proud Simmeringer Amtshaus on Enkplatz has been just an “expository” for the city – namely of the Landstraße district office, which now manages both districts. Soon you will only be able to go to Simmering for ‘services that are in great demand’, as the municipality calls them: registration, passports, lost property and parking stickers. This has been the norm for some time in seven other dual district offices and districts 15 and 16 will also have to get used to it.
