A ski trip by two friends on the Hallstatt Glacier ended in a fall on Wednesday. One of the two was so injured that he dared not go any further. An emergency call was made, police officers came to the rescue with a helicopter.
A 35-year-old and his 33-year-old mountain friend, both from Salzburg, went up the mountain with the Krippenstein cable car around 9:30 am on Wednesday and from there started a ski tour over the so-called Rumpler. After a short “fight” in the direction of Heilbronner Kreuz, the two friends made good progress and reached the Hallstatt Glacier as planned.
Knee twisted in the fall
However, around 5 p.m., the 35-year-old fell in the Taubenkar area at an altitude of about 1980 m and twisted his right knee. After a short drive, the two decided to make the emergency call. The crew of the police helicopter, which arrived quickly from Salzburg, managed to land near the two athletes and fly them down the valley to Hallstatt.
