In the north of Burgenland, a father and his four-year-old daughter who were cycling were hit by a car over the weekend. The driver committed a collision. The man turned himself in to the police and filed a report.
The accident happened last Sunday in Pöttsching (Mattersburg district). The 32-year-old motorist from Vienna said he heard a loud bang, panicked and drove on, the Burgenland state police reported. The 42-year-old father and his daughter, who were cycling, were injured in the accident.
Cyclists striped when overtaking
According to the police, his wife alerted the driver to media reports about the traffic accident, after which he reported to a police checkpoint in Vienna-Favoriten. The 32-year-old had hit the cyclist with the side mirror when overtaking, causing him to fall. He drove on without stopping, only the torn-off side mirror remained, according to police. The mother of the injured child, who was cycling behind her husband, called the rescue team, who took the two injured to hospital.
The 32-year-old is reported to the Eisenstadt prosecutor’s office for negligent bodily harm and abandonment of an injured person. In addition, a hit-and-run report is filed with the Mattersburg County Authority.
