A tragic industrial accident occurred on a construction site in Vienna-Liesing on Thursday. Two men fell out of a work basket – for them all help came too late.
The two men would have fallen several meters down. The basket then came loose, fell to the ground and hit the workers lying there.

The workers may have both moved to either side of the basket, which was attached to the fork of a forklift. That apparently caused it to tip over, the two men fell out and collided in the street. The basket also came loose from the fork and hit the two victims of the accident.
The Viennese professional rescue service, the Green Cross and the professional fire brigade tried to resuscitate the two. But to no avail, the men were too badly injured, but a doctor could only determine their deaths.
It is still unclear whether the fall or the basket were ultimately responsible for the deaths of the two. The Labor Inspectorate has been informed of the accident. Another open question was whether and how well the basket was attached to the forklift.
