Terrible accident Wednesday in a quarry in Klöch, South-East Styria: During blasting work, a worker (28) was hit by a boulder and torn twelve meters down. He didn’t stand a chance and died.
Around 08:00, the Styrian (28) and his colleague were busy filling embrasures with explosives. A large boulder broke suddenly and quite unexpectedly from the upper floor and fell in the direction of the men. The 28-year-old was unable to find cover in time, was grabbed and dragged about twelve meters down.
He succumbed to his serious head injury on the spot. First aid measures came too late. The Red Cross, the C12 rescue helicopter and the Klöch, Tieschen and Halbenrain fire brigades were deployed.
