Hiker hit by car – After a stone fall in Zirl: the path in Klamm is clear again

Date:

After the stone fall in the Zirler Schlossbachklamm on Tuesday afternoon, in which a hiker (65) was hit by a boulder and seriously injured, the path is now open again. “Assessment at your own risk”, as the community says.

The accident happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Tuesday. The 65-year-old resident walked into the valley in the Schlossbachklamm. On the way back towards the Zirler firing range it happened: a stone fell at the back waterfall. “The walker was hit on his left upper arm by a stone with a diameter of half a meter,” the police reported at the time.

Wounded, he dragged himself to the valley
The seriously injured pensioner would have made an emergency call himself and then dragged himself towards the valley. “An ambulance helicopter then carried out a search flight. The seriously injured can be seen and rescued,” said the ministry.

The man was then flown to the helicopter base in Innsbruck and from there to the regional hospital in Hall.

Path open again, “Assessment at your own risk”
The Schlossbachklamm was then closed due to the acute danger of falling rocks and examined by experts. On Friday, the community finally said that “the maintenance path to the canyon is now accessible again.”

The state’s geological survey has shown that the event in question corresponds to the usual magnitude in the Alpine region and is not an exceptional event. There was no evidence near the eruption site that would indicate major events.”

However, the municipality emphasizes that the inspection “always takes place at your own risk. Keep in mind that you are moving in the Alpine region.”
