Spectator sang wrong – performance cancelled

Date:

Because visitors would not stop singing along, a musical performance of “Bodyguard” in Manchester was cancelled. Unfortunately, the lady and her companion sang wrong, professional singer Melody Thornton could no longer drown them out.

After all, the play was only ten minutes away from the end. Just as singer Melody Thornton began starring the iconic “And I will always love you” passage from “Bodyguard,” a woman in the audience sang along the lines in the most off-key tones.

“I fought really hard. It feels awful and I hope we meet again,” Thornton apologized to viewers on Instagram after the incident. She couldn’t drown out the vocals. According to the “Spiegel” and British media, the police would have been called for the performance on Friday evening. A decision on further measures will follow.

Already an interruption in the first act
According to the newspaper “Guardian”, the musical was briefly interrupted in the first act to turn away visitors who did not want to refrain from singing along. An actor spoke of “bad behavior of individuals”.

The theater staff was disappointed, but thanked those involved for their professional and calm performance. “Future performances will continue as planned. We ask the audience to be considerate of the cast, the other audience members and the theater crew so that everyone can enjoy the great entertainment on stage,” they said in a joint statement.
