Verdict in Krems – acquittal! Little Diana’s mother takes a deep breath

Date:

The fate of the then four-year-old, who was arrested by the police in January 2022, stirred the whole of Austria. The child flew to the US with his father and has since been separated from his mother. Julia Erickson was on trial in Austria on Wednesday for child abduction. She was acquitted. But the daughter remains (for now) far away.

“I haven’t slept all night since the police arrested Diana in January 2022. Even today I woke up at 2 am with dizziness,” says the mother of the accused Julia Erickson for the trial of her daughter at the regional court in Krems (Lower Austria).

With the girl in the country “underground”
In 2019, the 44-year-old, who wanted a divorce, came home with Diana and later went into hiding in the countryside with the child. In the summer of 2021, she hid Diana in Lower Austria and robbed her father, who, according to the prosecutor’s office, had fought for sole custody in the United States. There was a threat of three years in prison.

Detention bottleneck
“I was in contact with Bureau Jeugdzorg from the start and was always there for the social worker,” the desperate woman told the judge. “My client assumed at the time that she still had custody of Diana in Austria,” her criminal lawyer Philipp Winkler credibly denies the criminal intent.

The battle for the child continues
Mr. Rat follows him and acquits (not definitively) the woman, whose daughter now lives in California. A short breath before the fight over Diana’s whereabouts continues. “It is the purest tragedy”, the grandmother has a great longing for her only grandchild.
