The Washington Post reported that the person behind the leak works at a military base and has shared sensitive national security secrets on a closed Discord group with acquaintances to show off. The leaked documents contained detailed intelligence assessments of both allies and adversaries.
Pentagon restricts access to classified information
Meanwhile, according to CNN information, the Pentagon has begun significantly curtailing its intelligence information distribution list. Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder said in an interview with News Nation Wednesday that the U.S. Department of Defense is “evaluating damage control measures to prevent potential further unauthorized leaks.”
According to the latest figures released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, as of 2019 there were 1.25 million individuals within the orbit of the U.S. government with permission and access to read top secret materials. In the current case, experts believe hundreds — or more — of people had access to the documents.
