The three Italians who went missing after an avalanche in the Valle d’Aosta have died, their bodies were recovered on Friday. According to French media, ski tourers were hit by the snow masses at the top of Punta Goletta.
They followed regional training as mountain guides. In this context, they were on Thursday with an already trained mountain guide in the Rhemes valley. There an avalanche tore people away. Among the fatalities are a well-known 39-year-old ski tourer, a 44-year-old ski instructor and a 37-year-old police officer from Italy.
As reported, the leader of the rope team (49) was able to save himself and raise the alarm. His condition was classified as “not worrisome”. The rescue operation that followed was difficult due to the bad weather. Neither the French nor the Italian helicopters were able to fly to the scene of the accident. Last Sunday, six people were killed in an avalanche on the Armancette glacier on the Mont Blanc massif.
