Italian police have seized two tons of cocaine with an estimated value of more than 400 million euros. The drugs were distributed in about 70 floating packages, which were fitted with a light-emitting signal device and held together by nets.
They were packed in such a way that sea water could not penetrate and the packages could not sink. As the police reported on Monday, they have secured the drugs off the eastern coast of Sicily. They had been abandoned at sea by freighters and should have been salvaged and transported to the mainland.
The drug weighed almost 2000 kilograms and has an estimated market value of more than 400 million euros. This is one of the largest drug finds in Italy.
