There is a new twist in the hunt for the stranger who flooded dozens of basements in residential complexes in Eisenstadt. As reported, the Oberwarter settlement cooperative has significantly increased security measures after multiple incidents at a residential complex in Bahngasse. This also had an effect – but not as hoped.
The ‘water devils’ – the police now assume that there are two suspects – have now simply changed locations. Instead of the facility on Bahngasse, the cellars in a block on Kasernenstrasse are now flooded. According to OSG boss Alfred Kollar, there have already been four incidents where taps have been turned on or valves in water pipes have fallen. As far as is known, there are already three different crime scenes.
Strangers made for a cinematic escape
It wasn’t until Thursday that a suspicious two employees escaped by a hair’s breadth. The stranger had rolled under a closing garage door during his almost cinematic escape. When the gate opened again, he was gone. The man is described as very fast and agile.
Caused tens of thousands of euros in damage
In any case, the costs resulting from the incidents are now enormous, says Kollar. In addition to the material damage to the buildings and the property of the residents, there are also the bills for security and pumping out. “We are moving in a six-figure range,” said the OSG boss. He hopes that the perpetrators will be caught soon. “It has to be someone who knows his trade well. But why does he do this with these systems in particular? We are groping in the dark,” says Kollar. In addition, the question is how the perpetrators get into the buildings.
Description of the perpetrator published by the police
The police have now published a description of the perpetrators of two suspects: Two young men aged 17 to 25 with a slim build and dark clothing (hooded sweater) are being sought. One of the two has prominent bags under the eyes and a curved nose. A reward of 2,000 euros will be offered for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.
