Again and again robbers commit land art coups worth millions in Styria: in 1977, 80 pistols were stolen from the Graz armory, in 1988 the treasury in Mariazell was looted. A look back.
It was an art theft that is rare in Styria: on Sunday, a Slovak smashed a glass display case in Deutschlandsberg Castle with a brick and made off with three valuable Celtic jewellery. The police arrested the perpetrator and the loot – gold chains and bracelets – was secured.
In the past, our state was often the target of daring treasure hunters, in addition to the theft of valuable paintings and sacred objects from private homes and places of worship, coups of millions of detectives kept tension – as in Graz, Mariazell and St. Lambrecht.
