After two people died in a tragic traffic accident in Lower Austria on Monday, the state police have now also confirmed that the two dead are a 49-year-old mother and her 16-year-old daughter. The car of the two was “buried” under the heavy truck.
The two were driving their car on the Mattersburg Expressway (S4) near Katzenlsdorf when the 65-year-old crashed his truck head-on. The truck combination had previously crossed a double guardrail. All help came too late for both.
According to the police, the Hungarian citizen was traveling by truck to Burgenland from the southern highway (A2). The 49-year-old steered her car the other way, her daughter was in the passenger seat.
Truck swerved to the left
The heavy vehicle first hit the right crash barrier and probably swerved to the left as a result. The force of the collision pushed the car against a guardrail and transported it under the trailer. The 49-year-old woman and her daughter succumbed to their serious injuries at the scene of the accident.
The truck driver was thrown from the driver’s cab and landed on the asphalt. The seriously injured man was taken to the State Hospital Wiener Neustadt. Several people were slightly injured in the accident. The S4 was closed from about 8 a.m. to a little after 4 p.m., traffic being diverted via state and state highways.
Complaints to the Federal Administrative Court
After the serious accident, the call went out for a central partition on the S4. According to “Kurier”, a corresponding project has been running since 2019. There have been delays due to complaints to the Federal Administrative Court and the Administrative Court. Realistic start of construction is now autumn 2025, completion is possible in 2028.
