Religious revenge – Pakistan: Attackers kill seven teachers at school

Date:

At least seven teachers have been killed in a school shooting in Pakistan. Gunmen entered the building in Kurram district and opened fire. The local police assume a religiously motivated act of revenge.

The victims are exclusively Muslim Shiites. According to police officer Shaukat Toori, the attackers wanted to avenge the death of a Sunni teacher who was also killed in an armed robbery on the same day. The region now fears further reprisals – hospitals are already on alert.

Six soldiers were killed on Thursday
At least six soldiers were killed in a shooting between the armed forces and the Pakistani Taliban on Thursday. This has been reported by the country’s army. The incident happened when soldiers discovered a hideout of the militant Islamists in the North Waziristan region and attacked them with bombs and shots.

Fighting between the army and the Taliban
Deadly clashes break out repeatedly in Pakistan between the army and the Taliban. After more than 80 people, mostly police officers, were killed in a suicide bombing in Peshawar this year, the South Asian country is once again taking tougher measures against militant Islamists.
