Ammunition, artillery – Biden announced further military aid to Ukraine

Date:

US President Joe Biden has announced new military aid to Ukraine. The military will receive munitions, artillery and armored vehicles, Biden said in Hiroshima on Sunday. Earlier he had promised fighter jets. However, it may take some time before these are actually delivered.

Biden promised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the US would do everything possible to strengthen Ukraine in the war. The two politicians met for talks on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Japan. As reported, Selenskyj made a surprise trip to Hiroshima on Saturday. Earlier, the US government had openly shown itself for the first time to supply Western F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.

training should be supported
However, it may take a while for delivery. “What is related to pilot training is a long-term project,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in Japan on Sunday. According to a US official, Biden said the US would support the training of Ukrainian pilots on “fourth-generation fighter jets, including (the US jet fighter’s)” F-16, working with “allies and partners”.

Shortly afterwards, the US president promised further military aid to the country at war. The pack contains ammunition, artillery and armored vehicles. The value has not yet been quantified.

Bachmut taken?
Meanwhile, it is a mystery whether Wagner’s private Russian army completely captured the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut or not. While Russia’s defense ministry confirmed the arrest on Sunday night, the Kiev government disagreed. The fighting would continue. Zelenskyy said the city was almost completely destroyed (see video above), there were no buildings left and “a lot of dead Russians.” Bakhmut was “in our hearts”.

The opponent of the war had declared the battle for the city in the east of the country decisive on Saturday and announced its complete conquest. Yevgeny Prigoshin, the head of the Wagner mercenaries, had announced the capture and subsequently received congratulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Anyone who has distinguished himself will be honored with state awards,” Putin said.

The battle is considered the longest and costliest of the war, which began 15 months ago. The city then had 70,000 inhabitants.
