The autopsy result of the bear found on Tuesday on the railway line between Schwarzach and Lend is available. According to the state of Salzburg, the cause of death was confirmed as serious internal injuries. It is believed that the bear collided with a train and died. Still, some unanswered questions remain.
There have been several rumors lately about the bear’s cause of death. There is even a charge of poaching against strangers. The Research Institute for Wildlife Science at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna performed an autopsy on the carcass, the result is now available.
No indication of gunshot wound
“The animal clearly died after the serious collision. Another cause of death or illegal killing can be ruled out,” says Josef Schöchl, director of the state veterinarian. X-rays show multiple serious injuries and broken bones. In addition, the animal had massive internal bleeding in the chest and abdominal area, it is said. “There is no evidence of gunshot wounds,” emphasized Schöchl.
Doubts about the collision and unanswered questions
Several train drivers who doubted a collision spoke to the “Krone”. The ÖBB also recently could not say exactly which train caught the bear, or spoke of the animal lying on the rails when the emergency brakes were applied.
