A young woman has died in an accident while hiking in Slovakia’s Lesser Fatra Mountains. The mother of three children fell to her death in front of her children. Her offspring was left alone on the mountain.
As the mountain rescue service announced, the 38-year-old lost her footing on Saturday and fell down a steep and rocky slope. The children aged four, seven and eight were left behind on the narrow path. A walker who saw the accident happen took care of her and alerted the emergency services.
Helicopter dropped an emergency doctor and other emergency services. Mountain rescuers rappelled down the gorge, but were only able to save the dead Slovakian woman who had been in an accident.
“Medium” hiking trail
The hiking trail is signposted and is described as “moderately difficult” on the Terchova Municipality website. The Lesser Fatra is a mountain range in northwestern Slovakia and one of the country’s most important tourist regions.
