The Russian Baltic Fleet has begun maneuvers in the Kaliningrad region. As of June 15, more than 3,500 armed forces are participating, the defense ministry in Moscow reported. For example, troop command and the defense of sea routes must be practiced.
Some 40 ships and boats are involved, as well as guard ships, corvettes, small missile ships, missile boats and up to 25 aircraft and helicopters. According to the Defense Ministry, the exercises have started in the Kaliningrad region and are expected to last until June 15.
The exercise has multiple objectives, such as improving the naval knowledge of the naval forces and the field knowledge of the Baltic Fleet’s coastal defense forces. The protection and defense of sea routes and naval bases, as well as the command and control of troops, must also be exercised.
Fighting in the border area of Belgorod
Meanwhile, fighting recently flared up between the army and Ukrainian volunteer groups in the Russian border region of Belgorod. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on Sunday confirmed the fighting in the village of Novaya Tavolshanka. There, a power plant is said to have been hit by a drone and caught fire. There were no injuries. For some time now, there have been repeated fighting and attacks in the Belgorod region (see video above), for which the Russian government always blames the Ukrainian side. In fact, they appear to be members of the “Russian Volunteer Corps”, which fights on the side of Ukraine, but is made up of Russian nationalists.
According to a video, several Russian army troops were captured. Governor Gladkow was open to talk. According to media reports, Poles are also involved in the fighting in the Russian border area.
