Mallorca’s restaurateurs, hoteliers and club operators have urged stricter measures against so-called “drinking holidaymakers”. The situation in the German holiday stronghold of Playa de Palma is now “alarming” and “unsustainable”, the main business associations in this part of the Spanish holiday island assured in a joint press release published on Wednesday evening.
“That’s enough,” says the “urgent appeal” to the authorities. The hoteliers association AHPP, the gastronomy association CAEB and the nightclub association ABONE complain that numerous tourists are increasingly tarnishing the image of Playa de Palma with their bad behavior.
Drastic measures needed for Ballermann
They demand drastic measures from the authorities responsible for the “Ballermann” as introduced by the Dutch metropolis of Amsterdam. The fines imposed on the street should be paid directly on the spot, it is said.
The entrepreneurs warn that the situation could get worse in the future if the “drinking holidaymakers” are not stopped quickly. “Not only the present, but also the future of the important tourist area” is in jeopardy if, among other things, a stronger police presence and more checks are not implemented quickly.
