A 29-year-old from Villach was hit on the south autobahn (A2) near Wernberg on Thursday evening after being rammed by an oncoming car while overtaking.
At around 6:30 p.m., the man from Villach was on his way to Villach near Wernberg when he started to overtake. When changing to the second lane, the following vehicle of a 54-year-old from Villach collided with the rear of his car. The 29-year-old’s car was thrown upwards, crashed into the center concrete wall and came to rest on the roof across the road.
The 54-year-old’s car came to a stop in the first lane. Fortunately, road users behind were able to brake. With the help of first responders, the 29-year-old was able to get out of the vehicle right away. The 54-year-old was also able to get out of the car together with his 40-year-old passenger. All three persons were taken to the LKH Villach with minor injuries.
An alcohol test conducted at the scene was negative for both drivers. Both cars were a total loss. During the salvage and clearance work, the southern motorway A2 in the direction of Villach was closed to all traffic. In addition to the police, the fire brigade of Velden and Wernberg, the Red Cross of Villach and roadside assistance were also present.
