Large-scale firefighting operation in the Tyrolean Oberland: In Fendels (Landeck district), a forest fire broke out on Saturday afternoon under a gondola lift, which eventually spread to an area of 1.5 hectares. Shortly before 4:30 p.m., the bushfire broke out under the gondola between supports four and five. A large-scale action by the fire brigade began. “At that time there were no more people in the gondolas. An operations center has been set up near the mountain station in Fendels,” the police said.
Fire brigades from surrounding towns and the mountain rescue service were alerted. In the end, more than 80 emergency services were on the scene. Three firefighting helicopters were also deployed.
