Last big fire five years ago
On May 26, 2018, a major fire broke out in Europe’s largest amusement park: most of the Scandinavian and Dutch themed areas fell victim to the flames. Restaurants, shops and the attraction “Pirates in Batavia” were destroyed. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the fire was caused by a technical defect and caused millions of damage.

Seven police officers and firefighters were slightly injured. About 500 women and men were involved in the operation. About 25,000 visitors came to the amusement park that day. More than two years later, Pirates in Batavia was reopened.
