Satisfaction with the Austrian education system remains average. This is evident from the third educational climate index of the MEGA Education Foundation, for which about 3000 people were questioned. Overall, a “satisfactory” was awarded.
They could give marks on a scale of 1 (very good) to 5 (unsatisfactory). More than 60 areas were examined, such as organisation, infrastructure, valuation and working conditions. For example, the 926 teachers surveyed – from schools, but also from kindergartens – indicated that there were problems with the IT equipment in the schools. In terms of the quality of education, they gave poor marks for business training, life skills and preparation for the world of work.
Differences in self-image and outward image
Another result is that teachers rate their personal relationship with students significantly better than the other way around. They also find their own contribution to society very important, but rarely feel valued by it.
All in all, the education system is rated worse today than in 2021. The 954 students (aged twelve to 19, of all school types) gave it a 3.0 (2021: 2.8), the parents came to the same value of school children ( 2021: 2.8). The parents of toddlers score slightly better (2.7; 2021: 2.4). The most dissatisfied are teachers in kindergartens (3.4; 2021: 2.9) and schools (3.3; 2021: 3.0).
1151 parents were interviewed, their children are between three and 19 years old. The MEGA Education Foundation wants to stimulate innovations in education and has been compiling the index since 2021. It is an initiative of the B&C Private Foundation and the Berndorf Private Foundation.
