After the tragic crash of the motor plane in Nikolsdorf on Sunday afternoon, in which the 43-year-old pilot was killed, an investigation has now been launched against the occupants of the glider. The deceased had pulled this into the air in tow.
The terrible accident happened shortly after the motor plane took off from Nikolsdorf Airport. This performed a towing movement in which a glider pilot was pulled along. Inside were a 56-year-old resident and a 65-year-old Italian. Police say the glider may have started lurching at a low altitude shortly after takeoff.
At the same time, the bonnet opened, sending the sailor flying upwards. As a result, the tug tipped forward and crashed into a meadow, where it caught fire after impact. The 43-year-old Carinthian suffered fatal injuries. The glider pilot was able to land unharmed at the airfield.
The investigation is already underway and an autopsy has been ordered
The first investigations started on Sunday afternoon. Members of the Federal Safety Investigation Board were at the scene of the crash. The wreckage of the accident and the glider were recovered and the court ordered an autopsy of the dead man.
investigation started
Aviation experts explain how this terrible incident happened. The Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office has also launched an investigation against the two occupants of the glider. However, a result on the exact cause of the accident could take weeks, Klaus Hohenauer of the Tyrol state aviation authority confirmed to the “Krone”.
Similar incidents years ago
Already in 1980 there was a similar incident in Nikolsdorf. And just five years ago, almost to this day, a pilot was killed in a plane crash in Langkampfen. Even then, the accident was similar, as Hohenauer knows.
