Russian forces have launched a series of attacks with various weapon systems in the Zaporizhia region of central Ukraine. At least six modified S-300 anti-aircraft missiles were deployed on Monday morning, according to the Ukrainian General Staff. In addition, 33 airstrikes and 45 attacks from multiple rocket launchers have been recorded since Sunday. Meanwhile, Ukraine reports small successes at the front (see video above).
“As a result of the Russian terror attacks, civilians were injured and homes, commercial and administrative buildings and private vehicles were damaged,” the latest management report said. The information could not be independently verified.
30 settlements shelled
According to the General Staff, Russian troops tried to stop the advance of Ukrainian units in the region south of Zaporizhia and to recapture lost positions. At least 30 settlements were shelled by Russian artillery.
Ukrainian and Russian forces carried out limited ground attacks in Donetsk and Zaporizhia oblasts on Sunday, according to the US Institute for War Studies (ISW). According to both sides, the uprising of the Wagner mercenaries did not significantly affect Russia’s combat capabilities.
130 square kilometers reconquered
In any case, Ukraine can report small successes along the southern frontline. Since the start of the counter-offensive, an area of about 130 square kilometers has been recaptured from Russian forces, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maljar announced on Monday.
“The situation in the south has not changed significantly over the past week,” Maljar told state radio. Over the past week, about 250 battles have taken place along the eastern frontline, including the areas around the towns of Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Maryinka, the deputy defense minister added.
New air raids on Odessa
Meanwhile, the southern Ukrainian port city of Odessa was attacked from the air on Monday night. Several explosions were heard in the city, Ukrainian media reported. Shortly before, the Ukrainian air force had warned of possible Russian attacks with cruise missiles launched from ships in the Black Sea.
