Three fire brigades were called out on Tuesday evening for a serious traffic accident on the Tauernautobahn A10 – Asfinag reported a person trapped!
At around 03:30 Asfinag sounded the alarm: on the A10 Tauernautobahn towards Salzburg, a car collided head-on with the shock absorber of a tunnel for unknown reasons. According to the alarm plan, the main fire station in Villach, the FF Wernberg and the FF Vassach immediately rushed to the site in St. Andrä in Villach, where it soon turned out that there was no one left in the completely demolished vehicle.
The driver, a 35-year-old Styrian, has already been treated by the Red Cross medical team. The fire service assisted in the medical care of the patient and provided adequate lighting in the area. “The battery of the vehicle involved in the accident has been removed, the accident scene has been secured and fire protection has been set up,” reports OBI Martin Regenfelder, deputy commander of the main fire station in Villach. The injured man was taken to Villach State Hospital with unknown injuries.
Wreck removed with crane
“By order of the highway police, the heavily damaged vehicle was recovered from the main fire station with a crane truck and secured at the highway maintenance department of Villach,” explains OBI Martin Regenfelder. However, the shock absorber protruding over the road had to be pushed aside manually by the emergency services. During the operation, the road towards Salzburg was completely blocked.
