It was arson! A witness filmed in Taufkirchen an der Trattnach (Upper Austria) how detonators set a pile of wood on fire. The head of the company is desperate for a motive and cannot understand why this was done to him.
“We don’t disagree with anyone. There are also no employees who have been fired or quarreled with competitors” – company manager Josef Klostermann searches for the motive why someone burned his carpentry workshop, his life’s work, to the ground. office building is still 80 percent intact,” says the entrepreneur from Hausruckviertel, who assumes damage of three million euros. Fortunately, he is insured.
Witnesses saw something
It is now clear that it was arson. A witness saw the detonator set fire to a wood depot. And apparently with gasoline. Because the flames immediately flared up. The strong southerly wind quickly fanned the flames and drove them to the production hall, where doors were mainly manufactured. The witness also took out his mobile phone, called the fire department and filmed the crime. But at a distance of about 200 meters, the detonator cannot be identified. The getaway car is also unrecognizable. The perpetrator was not in the building itself. “After several break-ins, we installed a surveillance system there,” explains the manager.
Difficult extinguishing work
One rescuer was injured during the extinguishing work, for which 23 fire brigades were deployed. Around midnight, the large contingent of emergency services was able to largely contain the flames. A spread to other companies could in any case be successfully prevented.
Supply pipes for the extinguishing water had to be laid over great distances. At least one firefighter had to be treated on the spot by the emergency services. “We still have embers and the fire brigade is trying to extinguish them completely,” reports Josef Klostermann.
The police are now hoping for more witnesses who saw something at 10:20 p.m. on Thursday evening: 059133/40 3333.
