full of fire! A haystack in Pöndorf went up in flames on Monday night. A firefighter was injured in the large-scale action. Several animals died in the fire.
As reported Sunday evening, the alarm level increased almost every minute. A haystack in Pöndorf in the Vöcklabruck district was completely on fire after a short time. 15 fire brigades arrived on the scene. Among them the FF Pöndorf. Commander Thomas Ramsauer reported to the “Krone” on Monday morning about the difficulties of the large-scale operation at night: “There is a stream nearby that we pumped out. Then we switched to fire hydrant operation.”
Entrepreneur helped in action
When this also failed, a forwarding agent came to the rescue with his tankers, which were actually intended for transporting milk. The vehicles transported the water for the extinguishing work. This enabled the emergency services to prevent the flames from spreading to the adjacent residential building.
Several animals died in the fire
Tragic: At the time of the fire, there were still animals in the hay barn. “I assume about 30 animals died,” says Commander Ramsauer. However, about 50 cattle and calves must have come out of the barn in time and be able to get to safety with the help of the farmer.
During the rescue operation, a firefighter was injured: a cow climbed on the foot of a student of Floriani. “It hurts,” says Ramsauer about his colleague, who fortunately should not have been injured too badly.
Burning under control
Isolated fires were still raging Monday morning. “But they are under control,” said the fire chief. The biggest problem on the second day of the operation was transporting the hay out of the building. It is currently buried under the collapsed zinc roof. “If oxygen is added, it will definitely burn again.”
That same night, the emergency services also had to swerve to a second major fire: In Andrichsfurt, an outbuilding of a farm also went up in flames – we reported.
