A burning e-waste bin has become a death trap in the Czech Republic. A man who climbed in got stuck in the opening hatch and did not come out alive.
When the fire brigade arrived, only his head and arms were sticking out of the container for electronic waste, a spokesperson for the emergency services said on Tuesday. The fire was extinguished and the metal container was opened with an angle grinder. This turned out to be difficult. A doctor was ultimately only able to determine the death of the man.
Mann was apparently looking for usable electronic devices
The fatal accident happened in the early hours of the morning in Pilsen (Plzen), in western Bohemia, nearly 90 kilometers west of Prague. According to initial findings, the man may have climbed into the container in search of usable electronic devices. The garbage probably caught fire when it tried to generate light with a lighter.
On the run, the opening valve must have become stuck. Accidents keep happening in the Czech Republic because people get stuck in the special waste containers for electronic waste when boarding or alighting.
